The Livingston Ladies Claim Success! The Livingston Ladies AAU Basketball Club is claiming Success after its 2010 season leading into the upcoming 2011 season! The success of this Livingston Parish based girls program is not based on wins and losses. “In our program we measure success by the successes our players have after the AAU season and the success the teams they play for are having when they return to the court for their schools”, say’s Livingston Ladies Director Bill Sibley. “We also look at the growth of the program as an indicator, but sending two teams to Nationals was a nice sign as well.” These indicators are what define the vision of the Livingston Ladies- to see girls’ basketball grow and improve in Livingston Parish and the surrounding area. “ I want this area to play the best girls Basketball in the state! We focus on the area, not just one school or one team. This is an area vision.” The Livingston Ladies in 2010 represented 16 area schools with 47 players. Nine Jr. High Schools with 28 players and seven High Schools with 19 players. The Jr. High schools represented were; Denham Springs Jr. (4), Doyle Jr. (1), Holden Jr. (2), Live Oak Middle (8), North Corbin Jr. (4), Ponchatoula Jr. (1), Southside Jr. (2), St. Jean Vianney (2), and West Side Jr. (4). The High Schools include; Albany (1), Central (3), Denham Springs (1), Doyle (1, Taylin Underwood played both Jr. and HS ball in 2009-2010), Live Oak (3), St. Michael (9), and Walker (2). “All of our girls in our program made their school teams. Of the 28 players that entered HS this year 20 made their varsity teams, 7 of the other 8 made their JV team and the other made her freshman team. That’s not bad”, Sibley said. This year the Livingston Ladies hope to continue it’s new found success. Sibley anticipates the addition of an 11yr old age group bringing the programs team total to 5. “That would give us a 15, 14, 13, 12, and an 11yr old program.” Last year the Ladies organization sent two teams to national tournaments, this year they plan on sending three. “We want to grab momentum while we have it and build off of it. This year will be better than last year.” The Livingston Ladies begin each year with free fundamental clinics. This gives interested players a chance to come and see what it’s like to play for Ladies. “In the clinics we focus on footwork, ball handling, attacking the basket, finishing moves, moving with out the ball and Shooting. It’s a great Deal!” Sibley said this gives the new comers chance to see what Livingston Ladies Basketball is about. “It’s about being on the attack! Offensively and defensively, we don’t want to play a passive game.” The Ladies will begin these clinics on Saturday January 29th at West Side Jr. HS, 12615 Burgess Rd., Walker La. from 9:30-11:30. Tryouts for the Livingston Ladies will be February 19th for the Jr. High girls and March 12th for the HS girls. Both tryouts will be held at Walker HS, 12646 Burgess Rd., Walker La. Registration will begin at 8am with the work out starting around 9am. All girls 11 and up that are interested are welcomed. Wow the first year of re-organization is over and what a year it was. The Livingston Ladies had four teams this past year representing 4 age groups- 15's, 14's 13's, and 12's of which two went to national tournaments. The four teams totaled 48 players representing 16 different schools (7 High Schools and 9 Middle Schools) in both spring/summer and fall programs- 1 from Tangipahoa Parish, 3 from East Baton Rouge and 13 from Livingston Parish, 28 of our girls entered or re-entered HS this year. All 28 made their HS teams and all 20 Jr high players made their Jr High teams. Of those 28 that entered HS, 20 made there Varsity team, 7 made their Jv team and one made the freshman squad. Good Job Ladies.
